A great way to get buyers interested in a home is to get the sellers to do some updating before putting it on the market. Getting rid of outdated design trends and décor pieces can make a big difference to potential buyers. Now is the perfect time to get sellers motivated to buying season. Here are some of the home design features that buyers will be looking for in spring 2018:
Closed off formal rooms are definitely out for modern buyers. As people use their homes for more and more purposes like work, working out, and hobbies they want flexible spaces that can adapt to what they need. Parents want open spaces that can combine working at home with play space for the kids and a closed off back bedroom just doesn’t cut it. Turning spaces like garages into open flex spaces will definitely get more interest from buyers.
These days people want to get the maximum amount of living space possible from a home and that includes some kind of combined indoor/outdoor living space. Outdoor kitchens and fire pits, dedicated outdoor dining spaces and other upgrades that make use of outdoor space for living are in high demand with modern buyers.
First Floor Master Suite
Buyers are planning to stay put in their homes for a long time. And they want the convenience of a first floor master suite so that as they get older they don’t have to worry about their mobility and being able to get up and down a lot of stairs. Younger buyers prefer a first floor master suite to create some distance between them and the kids. Converting a room or combining rooms to create a master suite with en suite on the first floor is a good investment for sellers.
Formal dining spaces are something that modern buyers don’t want. Few modern families need a dedicated dining room and many prefer an open concept kitchen that can serve multiple purposes. However they do want a breakfast nook or breakfast room off the kitchen as a place for informal dining. Carving out a dedicated dining nook in a kitchen is a smart move for sellers.
Storage is something that buyers can’t get enough of. Smart storage, which is storage spaces built into existing shelving and cupboards, built in shelves and storage, and built in nooks and cubbies is extremely popular with home buyers this year. Sellers who have smaller homes can boost the appeal of the home by adding smart storage wherever possible. Buyers are willing to consider smaller homes if those homes have the storage and layout to make those homes functional.
