Today’s homebuyers expect a lot from their neighborhoods as well as their homes. With many homeowners working even longer hours than ever before and two-income families the norm parents want to be able to spend their free time at home with their kids in their neighborhood and not driving their kids all over the place. Here are the most requested neighborhood features that homebuyers want when they are looking for a new home:
Sidewalks
Sidewalks used to be found everywhere, but now it’s getting harder and harder to find areas with nice wide and safe sidewalks. Walkability is extremely important for home buyers who want to be able to go walking with their families or take their pets for walks often. Walking trails and bike trails are also in high demand but neighborhoods with well lit and well-maintained sidewalks are something nearly all home buyers want.
Parks and Green Spaces
When you were young a big part of your summer break was probably riding your bike to the park to hang out and play. And parents still want their kids to experience that. They just want to be able to send their kids out to play closer to home. With the closing of many municipal parks and play spaces, parents are looking to neighborhoods for playgrounds, parks, soccer fields, and other recreational areas. Home buyers are most interested in neighborhoods that have several parks, green spaces, and play areas for kids so that their kids can go out and play but do it close to home.
Convenient Amenities
Because homebuyers are often working long hours at their jobs they don’t have time to run around doing errands very often. Homebuyers are showing a renewed interest in mixed development neighborhoods where they can get stop at the market, mail a package, pick up the dry cleaning, grab some takeout for dinner and get a coffee all in the same block. Neighborhoods that offer amenities like community centers with Wi-Fi cafes, dry cleaning, convenience stores, and banking are very popular with today’s homeowners.
Community
Another big thing that homebuyers are looking for in a neighborhood is a sense of community. They want to come home to a neighborhood where the neighbors know each other and look out for each other. Communities that offer block parties, festivals, and other community events are more popular with homebuyers than communities that don’t offer those things. While some home buyers don’t want to get to know their neighbors very well most new home buyers are looking for communities with diversity where there are lots of community events and social gatherings. A strong community is a big enticement to home buyers.
