You have probably heard it said repeatedly that kitchens sell houses. However, it is actually true that kitchens are the number one thing that will keep buyers from buying home. If the kitchen is outdated, old, looks dreary, or just isn’t inviting the house will be very difficult to sell. But homeowners don’t always have the time or the money to put into fixing up the kitchen just to sell the house. Therefore, the solution is to do some fast and cheap upgrades to the kitchen that will make it more appealing to buyers. Older houses do not need a total kitchen renovation in order to sell. They just need a few updates to make them appealing to modern buyers. Here are some fast and cheap kitchen fixes that will get noticed by potential buyers:

Add an Island

MLS EdmontonKitchens have become multipurpose spaces where people hang out as well as eat. Adding a kitchen island with bar stools is a great way to show off the potential of the kitchen. Parents will be able to see their kids sitting at the island doing homework, or see themselves sitting there in the mornings having coffee. The homeowners can have an island built for cheap, or they can buy a portable island just to stage the house. But adding an island to the kitchen is a smart way to attract buyers.

Paint Cabinets

Old ugly cabinets are a real eyesore and they definitely turn off buyers. Since most homeowners do not want to take the time to strip and re-stain cabinets painting them is a good option. Painting all the cabinets classic bright white and adding neutral hardware like burnished copper or nickel is a great way to make the kitchen look updated, fresh and clean. Or go for a color to add a truly modern design touch. Black or slate blue cabinetry looks fresh and modern in the kitchen. Stick with neutral colors for cabinets though.

Add Storage

Make the most of every nook and cranny for storage. Add shelves or shelving units that look like built ins. Adding a pantry is a great idea if the space is there. But even just adding a few extra wall shelves to hold decorate plates, baskets or plants is an easy and cheap way to make the kitchen look a lot more inviting. More storage is a big selling point too so cram storage everywhere possible. Add storage baskets that can site on top of the high shelves or in the space over the refrigerator. The more storage there is the bigger and more open the kitchen will look. That is what will really attract buyers and make them want to put an offer on the house.
