Fall is approaching fast and homeowners that are planning on putting their homes on the market in the fall should always take care of the home’s outdoor areas before putting it up for sale. Keeping up the lawn and yard, and the driveway is an important part of getting a home ready to sell. Make sure that the homeowners that you are working with know that before they list their house in the fall they should always:
Power Wash the Driveway and Sidewalk
Pollen, dirt, and dust can build up on the driveway and sidewalk areas during the summer. And there also could be chalk remnants from summertime sidewalk drawings done by the neighborhood kids. Getting the driveway and sidewalks power washed will make them look vibrant, clean, and appealing. Potential buyers will notice small details like if the driveway is dirty when they pull up. Powerwashing is fast and affordable and will dramatically improve the curb appeal of the home.
Mow the Grass
An amazing number of homeowners think that since they are planning on leaving their home they no longer have to mow the grass. But tall unkempt grass makes a very bad first impression on potential buyers. As long as the sellers are in the home they should maintain the yard and grass and if they are planning on moving out before the house sells they should hire a landscape service to mow the lawn regularly.
Trim Bushes and Hedges
Part of tidying up the home to get it ready to sell is making sure that all the bushes and hedges are trimmed back. During the summer it looks nice to see lots of full and blooming hedges and bushes but when fall comes it’s time to cut them back and get them under control before the cold weather comes. Potential buyers will notice if the bushes and hedges look overgrown and unkempt and that will give them a negative view of the home.
Make Sure All Outdoor Features Are in Good Working Order
Ok so technically the outdoor electrical isn’t part of the landscape, but it’s still important to make sure that the outdoor electric outlets and outdoor lights are working. Once the fall comes it will get dark very early and those outdoor lights are going to be important when you’re showing the home. For safety and for visual appeal all the lights around the outside of the home need to be working. And making sure that all the outdoor electrical outlets have proper covers and are in good working order is important because the holidays are coming and people will want to decorate the outside of the home. They need to have working outlets for that.
