Edmonton has some really great local sporting events that you can enjoy, whether or not you live here. It doesn’t have to be expensive to take advantage of these events either. Here are a few tips from taking in the local sports teams, without spending a fortune.
The NHL and the CFL
Edmonton is home to the Edmonton Oilers NHL team and the Edmonton Eskimos CFL team. From fall through to the spring you can take advantage of game watching live, without breaking the bank. How? Easy. Get online and search for last minute tickets. Sites like Kijiji often feature dozens of people trying to offload tickets the day before and the day of a game. You can snatch up tickets for deep discounts, and make a night of it. Snag an NHL ticket for less than $50 a person, making it affordable to catch more than one game a season.
The same is true for the Edmonton Eskimos! Just get online and check.
You can take advantage of watching minor sports teams, like the Oil Kings (hickey) or the Rush (Lacrosse) by waiting for tickets to charity events to go on sale. These tickets aren’t pricy, usually $30 or less, making then a super affordable way to get out and enjoy a night on the town, even if you are on a budget.
Don’t miss your chance to participate in the various runs the city holds all throughout the summer. Whether it’s a fun run, a breast cancer walk or the Underwear Affair, there are lots of fitness/sport opportunities that you can actually take part in.
Although it often feels like Alberta only has two season (too hot and too cold), there are various sporting events you can get out and see for really cheap, at all levels, and even ones you can participate in yourself.
