Parks are wonderful for many reasons, most importantly that they provide great spots for kids to be active and burn off steam. But some parks offer much more than just wide-open spaces for kids and dogs to run around.
Some parks offer barbecue pits and covered areas (like a pergola or gazebo) for public use. This can be a great spot to host a family barbecue or reunion without shelling out tons of money on a venue, or trying to cram everyone in your home. These features can also be used for smaller celebrations, like kid’s birthday parties or just a family lunch.
Beat The Heat
Many neighbourhood parks these days include splash pads. Splash pads are touch sensitive sprinkler systems that allow kids to run around and get wet on hot days, without the city having to maintain a pool. They are more cost effective and provide fewer safety hazards, although you shouldn’t be surprised if the one in your area is overcrowded in the summer. These are very popular.
Good Old Fashioned Playing
Most parks, although not all, have playground structures. Modern play structures are far different from those that used to exist. From mini rock climbing walls, to built-in puzzle games, high quality slides and climbing apparatuses, the modern park has come a very long way.
Buying a home with a park nearby, or several parks close at hand, should be a priority. Having the opportunity to be active is half the battle when it comes to getting kids off the couch and outside. The more options, the better.
