Edmonton and surrounding areas have a lot to offer to tourists and residents alike. Whether you are looking for great shopping opportunities or a lot of family-fun opportunities, you can find it here. With a host of housing options and a slew of diverse neighbourhoods to choose from, you can get both your dream home, and a city you’ll want to raise your family in.
Shopping and Dining
Edmonton is likely most well-known for its major shopping centre, West Edmonton Mall (WEM). What makes it so special? Not only does the mall house an enormous amount of shops, but it is also home to a full size waterpark, full size theme park, a marina featuring live seal and penguin shows, not to mention a hotel, casino and a bowling alley.
Aside from WEM, there are numerous other malls spread out across the city, including outlet malls and unique shops and boutiques, most of which can be found along Whyte Avenue. To go with this, the city offers countless fine dining opportunities, as well as cafes, bistros and foods of all ethnicities.
There are dozens of recreation centres across the city which offer affordable memberships or drop-in fees for anyone looking to workout or swim. The Royal Alberta Museum, The TELUS World of Science and the Winspeare Centre offer engaging activities for people of all ages, whether you want to take your kids to their first symphony, or go on a first date to an IMAX cinema, you won’t be lacking for options in Alberta’s capital.
While we all enjoy the finer things in life, sometimes you just need some amusement, and what better way to get it than by taking in a CFL or NHL game. Edmonton is home to the CFL’s Edmonton Eskimos, and the NHL’s Edmonton Oilers, who were once the home team of Wayne Gretzky himself. The minor sports teams also provide very affordable recreational fun that makes it easy to include the whole family.
